Macintosh Server G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors)

Introduced: August 2002
Terminated: January 2003

Description

The Macintosh Server G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) was available in two configurations.

The dual 1.0Ghz configuration had a 120Gb hard drive, 256Mb of RAM and a Combo drive.  The dual 1.25Ghz configuration had a 120Gb hard drive, 512Mb of RAM and a Combo Drive.

History

The Macintosh Server G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) used several design features found on the new Xserve rackmount server.  The bus speed was increased and dual processors were now standard across the line.  They were also some of the loudest Power Macs ever made, with the nickname “G4 Windtunnel.”  Apple would eventually offer a fan as well as a replacement power supply in order to help alleviate the noise.
